Immigration station
Tenement of Terror | On this ride, park-goers will go up in an elevator in a make-shift tenement just like the ones immigrants lived in back in the day. It will look old and unsafe (even though it is NOT old or unsafe). The passengers will be strapped in to harnesses in seats when the floor drops down. Then they will plummet all the way to the bottom at top speeds before they are saved by the elevator. Millions of immigrants came to America in the 1800s. Germans, Irish, Russian, Greeks, Italians, and many more led to the growth of urban places. Many problems such as overcrowding, sanitary issues, diseases, and crime were apparent in the crowed slums of urban areas. Mass Transit | This ride is designed to carry many riders on their way across a ravine. They are strapped in to chairs sitting on a platform and then let go and swung across a mountain gorge. Mass transit is a form of public transportation designed to move many people at once. Elevated trains in Chicago and New York made mass transit possible. In 1897, the first subway opened up in Boston. The first of the subway system in New York City was up and running by 1904. |
